Search Engine Marketing Vs. Organic Placement

Having a website does not guarantee that it will ever be found by your potential clients even if they directly search for your product or service. While web developers work on the visual and functional aspects of on-page design, they rarely do anything to optimize sites to simply be found by searchers. There are two ways to appear in a prominent position on the first page of search results, which have a very high conversion rate opposed to listings found even on the second or third pages. Both of these are viable ways to connect buyers and seller, as targeted results will only appear after specific keywords describing your business are entered.

Search Engine Marketing

Search engine marketing (SEM) is one of two ways to appear in a premier spot on the first page of search results so prospective clients intentionally seeking your product or service can find your listing. This type of advertising is sold on a (CPC) cost per click basis and your ability to stay visible is based on you daily budget, your competitions budget, how much advertisers are willing to pay per click, and the amount of inventory available to sell. Here the advertiser is charged only when their ad is clicked and their site is visited no matter how many times the advertisement shows.

Organic Search Placement

A more conventional and long term approach to capture searchers intentionally looking for your product or service is to gain a high position in the list of organic search results. The amount of search results for every keyword or phrase varies greatly, and rising to the top and making a presence on the first page depends how strong that sites position is versus their competition. Proper (SEO) search engine optimization is vital to informing the search engines who you are, where you are, and what you offer. Having a top listing not only results in a higher conversion rate it also builds confidence in your business or organization. The main focus of an organic advertiser is to be visible and accessible, and that requires high organic placement with a strong optimization strategy. Maintaining a high organic placement requires continual effort as the competition will remain diligent in their pursuit as well.
